POPPY TRAVEL

For Schools and Young People

Poppy Travel is the travel division of The Royal British Legion. As the national custodians of Remembrance, The Royal British Legion and Poppy Travel believe that Remembrance should be used to educate people about the realities of conflict, those that are affected by wars and the importance of peace.

Poppy Travel tours for Schools and Young People, along with The Royal British Legion's schools' programme, supports schools and young people as they start to understand and participate in Remembrance, and to learn about people whose lives are affected by conflict.

WHY CHOOSE POPPY TRAVEL?

  • over 85 years of worldwide travel experience with the custodians of Remembrance
  • tours designed to suit the faiths, abilities, curricula or interests of your group
  • committed to education through learning outside of the classroom
  • understanding of historic sites of conflict
  • experienced CRB checked guides, fully trained to work with students and young people
  • an inclusive bursary scheme ensuring tours are accessible to all

Engaging

Our tours are designed to bring the past to life. and give students a direct and memorable experience of history and culture, tailored to your curriculum. By visiting and engaging with battlefields, cemeteries and monuments, young people — whether from schools, or other groups such as youth clubs, Guides and Scouts — can realise the significance of Remembrance on their own terms. Our aim is that students understand the sites they visit, not as monuments to people of the past but as living memories to help us understand and reflect on the present.

Guides

Our CRB checked guides, many with direct Service experience, encourage participation, exploration and debate as they recount the experiences of those that were there. They use tour specific support materials linked to curricula or themes to create interest and involvement.

Choice

Our range of tours is always growing both across the UK and overseas. So if we don’t offer a tour to suit your requirements, we'd welcome a call (0845 602 2482) to discuss designing a customised tour. We will do everything we can to help you plan an unforgettable trip.

Understanding

Visits to real historical sites, including battlefields and Commonwealth War Grave Cemeteries, provide learners and teachers with an opportunity to learn in different ways.

Working with The Royal British Legion's schools programme, your Poppy Travel tour will be designed to reflect the aims of your school, curriculum and the interests of your students.

A helping hand

We understand the difficulties that schools and organisations can experience when travelling outside of their usual environment. At Poppy Travel we can offer advice and help with all stages of pre-tour planning including risk assessments to ensure a smooth process throughout.
