To give you a taste of the type of tours and pilgrimages Poppy Travel provides, we've prepared an audio podcast. This particular audio was captured at the site of the Battle of The Somme and the surrounding area and is just over 9 minutes in length.
"At first I was a little apprehensive in making such an emotive journey, but the Pilgrimage was most professionally carried through. The regard that Piers Storie-Pugh and the team afforded when we grieved was profound.
"A finely crafted balance between commemoration and the opportunity to learn more about the histories of those who fought and died.
"Every member of the team, from tour guide to driver was entirely sympathetic to our needs throughout the entire journey. For such an emotional journey, they could have done no more."
Isobel Hunter
"It is quite wonderful that the Poppy People could make this happen.
"I do not think that it is possible to create a more sympathetic environment in which to commemorate. My thanks and respects lie with those who made this Pilgrimage possible, and the care and effort they gave to each and everyone of us.
"For a long time I had considered visiting my husband’s grave, yet did not feel that it was a journey I could make alone, or to travel so far. It was only the name of the Legion and what it represents, that gave me the impression that I would be able to make this journey. I received nothing but care and consideration from the tour guides and staff."
Doreen Sutherland
"The lasting impression I had was of the way in which the veterans who made the Pilgrimage were treated with the utmost respect and consideration."
Nansi Golton
"They managed the whole journey and visit extremely well with every single aspect extremely well covered. Piers-Storie Pugh was a mine of information, who not only guided us with a great professionalism, but also enabled the veterans to speak freely and openly about their experiences. For the tour guide it was as much as an education as ourselves, and all the old boys appreciated that.
"Extremely professional. Everything went clickety click. Nothing went wrong, and everything was right for what was such a poignant visit. I would love to return to Burma, as I only have fine memories of the Pilgrimage"
John Cummings
