While Operation Overlord (the invasion of Normandy) was in its final planning stages, the Allies landed in Italy and advanced towards Rome between September 1943 and June 1944.
This Remembrance Tour honours those who died in the historic struggle for southern Italy - considered by some to be every bit as desperate as the battle of Passchendaele.
Names from the past at the battles of Monte Cassino, Anzio, Salerno and the Winter LIne, echo with pride and bravery.
Unfortunately, the cost was high as can be clearly seen on visits to the beautifully maintained World War II cemeteries.
Today, southern Italy is one of the most appealing destinations imaginable – stunning scenery, the Mediterranean, and superb food – which helps make this one of our most popular tours.
Highlights include:
- Service of Remembrance at Cassino War Cemetery with our official Standard Bearer on parade
- Personal visits to war cemeteries at Cassino, Minturno, Salerno, Anzio and Naples.
- Visit the famous Benedictine Monastery of Monte Cassino
- Learn about the battles of Anzio, Cassino and Salerno at the Piana delle Orme Museum
- Visits to American, Polish or German war cemeteries can be arranged on request
- Full day optinal excursions to Rome, Capri, Pompeii or Sangria River
