"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."
Winston Churchill, August 1940
|
The Battle of Britain was a defining moment in the early days of World War II. For four months, the Luftwaffe rained bombs on Britain in preparation for invasion. But the air raids stopped in August 1940: the RAF had prevailed.
This event-filled tour is divided between England and France - visiting Dunkirk on the 70th anniversary of the evacuation - as we relive the threatening events of 1940. We honour the superhuman efforts of the RAF and the genius of the control systems developed under the legendary Sir Hugh Dowding.
Highlights include
- Learn about the Blitzkrieg, the war over France, British air defences and the SS massacre near Esquelbecq
- Visit the evacuation beaches at Dunkirk and see German airfields
