Tour Code B2CA01

From its origins in 1749 throughout the 19th century, Halifax was one of the British Empire's key overseas naval stations.

During World War II, its harbour - the second largest natural harbour in the world - was the staging point for the great supply convoys to war-torn Europe.

Today, modern Halifax is a vibrant port and important Canadian naval base. Most of the city's attractions are an easy walk from our downtown hotel and its popular waterfront boasts over 450 dining spots.

Included too is one of the world's most scenic drives along Nova Scotia's spectacular rocky sea coast and through rugged, forested highlands.

Highlights include:
  • Halifax Citadel - symbol of the city's role as a key British naval base and the first landmark for seamen who survived crossing the U-boat infested Atlantic waters
  • HMCS Sackville, a Flower class corvette and one fo the little ships that escorted Allied convoys, now restored as Canada's Naval Memorial
  • The Merchant Navy Memorial honouring the seamen who passed through Halifax
  • Excursion to historic Lunenburg with its colorful waterfront and narrow streets; see Peggy's Cove lighthouse, symbol of Nova Scotia's seaborne spirit
  • Visit the Canadian naval base in Halifax and attend a social function with the Royal Canadian Legion (subject to operational commitments)
  • Optional day trip to historic Sherbrooke Village.
